Prof . Thomas Hermans

A Decade as a "Junior" Group Leader
Prof. Thomas Hermans is a well-known scientist in Systems Chemistry and in out-of-equilibrium supramolecular systems. He has been awarded the ERC starting grant 2017 and is the network coordinator of a MSCA-ITN-2018 on chemical reaction networks “CReaNet”. He is a Young Scientist at the World Economic Forum (recognizing 21 brilliant researchers under the age of 40 https://bit.ly/348S9c7), and at the World Laureates Association. He holds a national chaired position at the Institut Universitaire de France since 2022. Prof. Hermans has pioneered the “liquid tube” technology and is co-founder of start-up company Qfluidics that is commercializing the technology in the field of flow chemistry. In addition, Prof. Hermans has been promoted to professor at age 36. Prof. Hermans holds numerous leadership positions including Director of Laboratory of non-equilibrium complex systems. Recently he has been awarded Forcheur J.-M. Lehn prize for his contribution in science and technology. He authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles. Prof. Hermans lab has a broad patent on any form of chiral separation in Taylor–Couette devices and in progress of launching another start-up company to exploit the results. Since 2013, Prof. Hermans has filed 12 patents in 4 patent families and running 2 valorization projects leads to a start-up company that has raised > 1 M€ in the first 18 months (www.qfluidics.com, 2018) and won several start-up prizes including the Grand Prix i-Lab in France.
